Academics
Literacy
I follow a workshop approach for delivering ELA content through reading and writing workshop. This entails a daily mini-lesson, shared, independent and partner reading and share reflection time at the end of the lesson. I conference with students daily to set goals, and discuss strategies for success. In addition I provide a word work component which focuses on word patterns, spelling and phonics.
Science
I teach science following best practices in science by incorporating the science and engineering practices into content lessons. Students learn the nature of how to do science and engineering by demonstrating content knowledge through application of these practices.
Writing
I follow a workshop approach for delivering ELA content through reading and writing workshop. This entails a daily mini-lesson, shared, independent and peering editing and share reflection time at the end of the lesson. I conference with students daily to set writing goals, and discuss strategies for success.
Social Studies
I teach social studies through dramaticplay, and primary sources.
The content standards, history, civics, geography, economics and
culture/diversity, represent five major strands within the overarching umbrella of social studies.These five strands are addressed through the theme “Inventions, Innovations and (Immigration)Movement of People.”
Mathematics
I follow a workshop approach for math, delivering a mini-lesson on a new strategy or component, holding math talks, then providing group and independent work time. Students participate in math projects, stations and puzzles utilizing the 8 math practices.
Technology
Students will learn about coding, keyboarding, online portfolios and more with chromebooks, ipads, robotics, and littlebits.
